Restaurant Sketches

Just some sketches I did of people in a restaurant while in Boston. I had a few of them sign their names next to the sketch I did of them... I like to know their names, it's one more interesting little piece of the puzzle.

Random Delaware Sketches

The chair was done at a friend's house, and then the plant was sketched while waiting around at the doctor's office.

Then I did these while I was bored at home.

These few pages are from Cat's Yule Party. Most are mine; the guy is my new character, Draven. The small pencil headshots of him and the pencil sketch of Stroud were done by Cat, and the sketch of Ceres was done by her creator (someone remind me of her name please, she signed it but I can't read her handwriting).

A couple of colored pencil sketches from the last few days...  I'm particularly fond of the birds.

Cardboard Boxes

I had to make a 6x6in cardboard cube for my 3D-Design class and then remove geometric shapes from it that involved either halving the measurements or right angles, or both. This is the finished result from a few angles. Took around 5 hours total, so not too bad.

I also finished this leaf charcoal line drawing, one of three line drawings of plants for my drawing class.

Additionally, I finally got a photo of an oil portrait I painted a month ago or so as a present for a friend. One of my personal favorites.

Nudes, Sunflowers, and Works in Progress

Monday was my first class here at Pratt, and I had 6 hours of Drawing I: Figure and General. Despite being on crutches still and having to tackle a short flight of steps to get to the classroom, it was definately worth it and my favorite class thus far. The professor seems pretty straightforward and cool. I've really missed having a figure study class since pre-college ended last summer, so it was nice to get back into it, even though I feel like I've regressed on my nudes due to lack of practice.

The first three hours of the class were spent going over the syllabus and drawing sunflowers. We did a 20 minute drawing in charcoal without instruction, then critiqued them.

After the critique, we spent 10 minutes doing blind contour drawings. (Basically, you look at the object you're drawing the entire time, you have a piece of paper flipped over your drawing hand so you can't cheat and look at your own work. It's to make you learn to study it in a different way.) I was surprised at how well mine actually came out!

We then redid our sunflower for another 20 minutes. I really love how this one came out.

After the lunch break, we did nude figure studies for about 3 hours. All were short poses. These few are anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes long.

Hello, and welcome!

My name is Eileen, and you're welcome to call me either Eileen, Zeiran, or any other nickname you care to come up with. I'm a freshman Illustration major at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and I will be using this as a (hopefully daily) blog of new work. I'll be posting sketches and works in progress, and linking to my finished pieces when they're added to my online gallery.

Comments are set so that anyone can comment, whether they have an account or not - so feel free to offer comments, critique, or encouragement as you see fit.

Enjoy!
